So many Aussie whiskies, so few Father’s Days! We agree—one a year is not enough. That’s why Nip of Courage has created this awesome sampler kit that gives Dad the opportunity to try not one, not two but six beautiful craft whiskies from across Australia.
It even comes with a professional tasting glass that really brings out the best flavours that each distiller has put into their spirits.
And if you want to really chalk up the brownie points, you can buy pater the full-size version of his favourite whisky from this six.
What’s in the box?
Inside each specially made whisky sampler box, which you can have gift wrapped if you wish, are 6x30ml bottles of the finest Australian craft whisky from some of Australia’s best whisky houses.
Also included is a specially etched glencairn glass that professional whisky tasters, distillers and judges prefer to use.
The shape of the glencairn glass allows the aromas and flavours of the spirit into your olfactory receptors in your nose, where the vast majority of your tastebuds are, and the bell bottom allows you to see the colour and clarity of the spirit better too.
Corowa Distillery’s Characters Single Malt Whisky
Corowa Distillery produces spectacular NSW whiskies from their Riverina home on the Murray. This iteration they’ve called the ‘Characters’ in homage to the four lads in the production team.
Characters Single Malt is a delightfully approachable whisky. Matured in a mixture of American, French and Hungarian ex-wine casks, there are plenty of oak, spice and berry aromas, more oak, toast and sweet fruit on the palate and a long lively finish.
Morris Distillery’s Signature Single Malt Whisky
Coming from a long line of wine-makers and world-class fortifieds going back to 1859, experience really shows through in Morris Distillery, tucked away in Rutherglen in northeastern Victoria.
The Morris Signature Single Malt is a beautifully balanced whisky of malt, caramel and almond marzipan aromas. Finished in a combination of Morris’s own ex-fortified wine barrels, this whisky’s rich texture, and intense fruit and roasted spice notes end with a delicate yet satisfying length.
Chief’s Son Distillery’s The Tanist Single Malt Whisky
Hailing from the Mornington Peninsula in southeastern Victoria, Chief’s Son Distillery has strong connections to their Scottish ancestry, which shows in the name of the distillery and this whisky. From the owner-distillers’ name McIntosh—Mhic an Tóisich in Scots Gaelic—means ‘son of the chief’. And a tanist is the heir apparent to the chief.
The Tanist Single Malt is a rich, smooth, sweet whisky with opulent honey, vanilla and fresh citrus tones coming from one part aged in American oak. The other portion, aged in French oak barrels, gives up a wealth of stone fruit, dark toffee and old sherry to a long, pleasing, oily finish.
Starward Distillery’s Two-Fold Double Grain Whisky
With its stunning distillery in Port Melbourne, Starward has created some groundbreaking whiskies and their Two Fold Double Grain is certainly one.
Using malted barley and Australian wheat, then ageing Two-Fold in ex-wine barrels from some of Australia’s best Shiraz, Pinot and Cabernet regions, this whisky is a light, bright dram with balanced fruit and vanilla flavours and aromas. The delicate dry finish fades to sweetness.
23rd Street Distillery’s Batch No.1 Single Malt Whisky
In the SA Riverlands town of Renmark, 23rd Street Distillery sits on a site that’s been crafting wine and spirits for well over 100 years. Their turn came in 2016, where they’ve been making spirits like their incredible Signature Rum.
But they’ve also have been making their Batch No.1 Single Malt, ageing it in ex-Bourbon casks until the perfect moment. The result is an Australian whisky with plenty of sweetness, dried figs, spice and warm toffee tempered by a zing of fresh citrus zest.
78 Degrees Distillery’s Australian Whiskey
Up in the Adelaide Hills, 78 Degrees Distillery has long been making excellent gins, vodkas and vermouths, and their Australian Whiskey is just as exceptional not to mention innovative.
Using locally-sourced single paddock barley, hand-selected casks and a host of other behind-the-scenes techniques to not only improve flavour but efficiency too, 78 Degrees’ environmental focus shows what a modern distillery it is.
78 Degrees’ Australian Whiskey is packed with aroma and flavour: vanilla, caramel, dried fruits and spice on the nose, chocolate, cereal, banana and toasted muesli on the palate and a rich, comforting fruitcake finish with a zip of caramel at the end.
